  5. APPGEN Query Language (AQL) is an easy-to-use, easy-to-learn end-user tool
  6. used to produce on-screen and hard-copy inquiries on data files from any
  7. APPGEN Application.  AQL has a flexible English language sentence structure as
  8. the natural interface for the user.  Thus users can start out with simple
  9. inquiries, and then gradually increase the complexity of those queries to
  10. accommodate their changing information needs.  Since AQL commands are only
  11. used for queries, they do not add to, change, or delete data from the file
  12. accessed.  AQL allows users to extract data selectively, sort data on an
  13. unlimited number of levels, and present data in very simple to very complex
  14. formats with headings, schedules, breaks, subtotals, etc.  Dictionary
  15. maintenance programs allow for more sophisticated uses of multiple files,
  16. arithmetic calculations, etc.
